It's Monday, so it's only right to kick the week off with some good live music to provide the soundtrack while you daydream about Friday. We can always depend on the good folks over at NPR Music to make it happen, and this time they invited Jamila Woods to provide a mini-concert for our entertainment. The Chicago-bred singer stopped by NPR Music's Tiny Desk Concert series to perform tracks from her album HEAVN and entertain employees and fans alike who could take a break from their workday.

Jamila performed three cuts from the album, opening her Tiny Desk set with a laid-back yet poignant performance of "Blk Girl Soldier." Joined by her band, including Erik Hunter, Justin Canavan, Ralph Schaefer and Aminata Burton, the singer — dressed in denim from head to toe — belted out notes effortlessly. She later performed unreleased track "Giovanni," inspired by Nikki Giovanni's poem "Ego Tripping." The jazzy offering showcased Jamila's vocals perfectly and highlighted her clear chemistry with the band as they followed her ebbs and flows.

Jamila concluded her performance with "Holy," which was a soulful rendition of the beautiful track and blessed the audience with her talent and gentle spirit. Jamila re-released HEAVN last year and, if for some reason you don't have it, you can still purchase it from your favorite music retailer.
