SoulBounce Exclusive: Catch TIDES' Wave On 'Don't Let Me Down'

Up-and-coming duo TIDES, comprised of Innocent Tswamuno and Dan Song, not only rep different coasts but different countries and continents.  Innocent calls New York City home and hails from Zimbabwe, while Dan lives in Los Angeles and has roots in South Korea. Despite any coastal and cultural differences, the two became fast friends when they met at GRAMMY Camp in 2009 and have been collaborators ever since. They have dropped tracks here and there over the years, and now the duo is finally releasing their official first project, an EP entitled Crossroads, and SoulBounce is home to the world premiere of their single "Don't Let Me Down."

TIDES' sound blurs the lines between pop, R&B and electronica, all of which can be heard on "Don't Let Me Down." Over a bed of programmed drums and synths, Innocent handles vocal duties. "Don't you let me down, I pray," he sings on the chorus, but not to who you think. "It’s a message to one's self. I am telling myself to not let go of the fight for my life," Innocent tells us about his inspiration behind the lyrics. He takes time to reflect throughout the song. "Telling myself I can’t let myself down, asking myself how I can create the home, the life, the dream that I’ve envisioned through hard work." We appreciate Innocent's notes to self and introspection on "Don't Let Me Down."

This track is one of four on Crossroads, which the group says will showcase a growth in their sound and the versatility of their songwriting. TIDES is a pretty self-contained unit, with Innoncent and Dan holding it down on production, recording and mixing. They recorded "Don't Let Me Down" last year in NYC on one of those rare occasions when the pair was in the same location. Whether they're in the same room or across the miles, we're excited to hear the magic that these two friends continue to create.
