'X-Factor' Winner Alexandra Burke Steps Out Of The ‘Shadow’ & Announces UK Tour To Support New Album 'The Truth Is'

As she prepares for the release of her third studio album, singer/songwriter/actress Alexandra Burke drops the lead single and a stunning performance video to go with it. “Shadow,” written by Paul Meehan, Josh Breaks and Reign Write, is her first single in four years and gives eager fans a taste of what's to come. The mid-tempo track brilliantly showcases Burke’s powerhouse voice and tells the story of a woman desperately seeking to be released from a love that no longer serves her. Her tone is full of emotion but remains stern as she sings, “I keep clinging to everything I have once loved / But love don't live here anymore / Oh, but I just keep holding on to your shadow.”

In the accompanying video, with the support of two background singers and a three-piece band, the British songbird reminds us exactly why she took home the crown and won the fifth season of The X-Factor in 2008. Poise, stage presence and a show-stopping voice are just a few of the attributes that have kept Alexandra extremely busy since winning that title. She released her debut album Overcome in 2009, followed by her second album Heartbreak on Hold in 2012. In 2014, she won the lead role of Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard Musical and began a 12-month residency as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act The Musical in 2016.

As for her new project she says, “This album is incredibly personal to me. I have poured my heart and soul into my new music and it reflects the incredible journey I’ve been through – highs and lows, love and loss.” She also revealed that she’s been working on this album since 2013 and how life-changing experiences, such as the loss of her mom and her recent engagement, have shifted its focus. "Really it's talking about the love and loss in my life – it's not a sad album, but it is speaking of my truth, and my reality and what I've gone through and still going through currently." We are happy to see that she has been able to channel her joy and her pain into her art, and we’re excited to see what’s next.
