Jorja Smith 'Lights' Up The BBC 1Xtra Live Lounge With Her Rihanna & Cardi B Mashup

Singer/songwriter Jorja Smith is working on becoming a household name. The Brit sensation has graced many stages, including Coachella, COLORS and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and even a clocked in collabo with Kendrick Lamar off the Black Panther soundtrack. Earlier this week, in anticipation of her debut album Lost & Found dropping, Ms. Smith paid a visit to BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Live Lounge to perform her single “Blue Lights” along with a mash-up of Rihanna’s “Man Down” with Cardi B’s “Be Careful.”

For her covers, Jorja provided a jazzier, mid-tempo version of "Man Down" mixed seamlessly with “Be Careful.” She sang the first verse of "Man Down" and a bit of its chorus with the chorus from "Be Careful," before bringing things back full circle. Coming in at just over two-and-a-half minutes, the mashup is way too short but very sweet. Jorja does justice to both songs while making the covers indubitably her own. Of course, Jorja smartly saved the biggest spotlight for her single “Blue Lights.” Over a sparse accompaniment of keys, drums and synths, Ms. Smith gave us every bit of her song, not missing a note or breath, flawlessly switching between rapping and singing.

Jorja Smith’s Lost & Found is available for streaming and purchase today from numerous digital music providers. A follow up to her 2016 EP, Project 11, the album features singles “Blue Lights,” “Teenage Fantasy,” “Where Did I Go” and her latest loosie “February 3rd.” Before you dig into Jorja's debut, press play and fall deeper under her spell after you watch her Live Lounge performance.
