Khalid has had one whirlwind of a career, making his big break soon after graduating from high school in 2016. Since then, he's had more than a couple hits and graced his fair share of stages. So it's plain to see why many are predicting that he could be the music's next big thing. However, if you needed any convincing, you might want to take a look at his recent performance for NPR Music's Tiny Desk Concert series.

Known for more electronic sounds backing his vocals, Khalid arrived at his Tiny Desk with just acoustic guitarist Jef Villaluna to assist him in bringing his songs to life for those gathered in NPR's offices. He kept things strictly to his debut American Teen despite having a few recent burners from soundtracks that he could've trotted out. He began with "Young, Dumb & Broke," an anthem for those of his generation. While the acoustic arrangement definitely softened some of the song's edge, it still managed to capture the aimlessness and determination of youth that the singer illustrated in the lyrics. He followed with a stripped version of his signature hit "Location." The romantic lyrics lent themselves quite well to the romantic tone of the guitar, elevating the ballad beyond a Top 40 hit into almost singer-songwriter territory. Closing with "Saved," Khalid kept the audience mesmerized as he sang the tale of love lost and the need to hold on to a sliver of hope. Between songs, Khalid also showed off a bit of his winning personality by engaging the audience with stories about his songs and their creation, giving insight into his artistry.

While we already knew Khalid had talent, we must admit that his Tiny Desk performance definitely impressed us and gave us a better look at the artist he is and will become. Get to know the budding young star a little better yourselves by taking a peek at his Tiny Desk performance below.
