Love's Got Leon Thomas In The 'Sunken Place'

Though we know him more for his acting roles, Leon Thomas is a true Renaissance man whose skills span far beyond the stage and screen. We learned that when he dropped off his single "Favorite" earlier this year and when he took it even further in the song's visual. Well, we'll get to know even more about Leon as he's preparing to release his debut EP, Genesis, later this summer. He's also showing off a different side with the release of his new single "Sunken Place."

Inspired by Get Out (duh), "Sunken Place" is about the aftermath of a particularly rough breakup. "Got me in a sunken place / Got me in a sunken place / Got me all lost in space," he sings on the chorus as he expresses his pain. Meanwhile, the verses tell the story of what's brought him there. His voice is distorted as he flips between rapping and singing, showing the different parts of his psyche that have been affected by the relationship's demise. But Leon didn't just tap into his singing and rapping abilities to tackle the track. He also handles production duties here, crafting a song around a guitar loop and drums, layering things out until it becomes a march of conflicting emotions dragging him deeper and deeper into despair.

Based on what we've heard so far, we're definitely anticipating what Genesis will be bringing. However, until we get a more solid release date, we'll just have to press repeat on Leon Thomas' latest offering.
