Meet Heather Victoria In 'Japan'

Our ears have always perked up whenever we've heard the angelic voice of singer/songwriter Heather Victoria grace the hooks of tracks from the likes of David Banner, Big K.R.I.T., Mac Miller, Jadakiss and her Jamla Records label mates Add-2 and Rapsody. Though she notes the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige as one of her main inspirations, she serves her own refreshing brand of R&B, which is somehow both current and classic, a nod to those who have come before her. Though her solo efforts, including two EPs, a mixtape and her 2017 single "Dream On," kept us content and showcased all that the Wilson, North Carolina native is capable of, still we've waited with baited breath for a full album.

It seems that wait may soon be over with the release of Heather Victoria's new single "Japan" and the promise of more new music where this came from.  The beautifully breezy track is a brilliant mix of hip-hop, soul and jazz and provides the perfect accompaniment to Heather’s delicate vocals. Joined by The Gavin Quartet, Heather sings of a love that transcends both time and place and yearns to rendezvous across the sea. In her pristine and passionate tone she sings, “I always knew this love for you would travel all around the world / Your energy’s been pushing me to live better now I’m happier.”

Give “Japan” a spin and you might just find yourself scheduling your own getaway for two. While we keep our eyes peeled for official word on when 9th Wonder's label will drop Heather Victoria debut album, we'll take this single as a sign of good things to come as the Jamla camp has been on quite a roll lately. In the meantime, add the track to your Summer ’18 playlist from the digital platform of your choice, and keep up with Heather by following her on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
