Everything's coming up H.E.R. it seems. The rising R&B star has finally stepped from the shadows and into her own, charting her own path in the process. She's currently promoting her latest EP I Used To Know Her: The Prelude and her upcoming I Used To Know Her Tour, so of course she's going to make a few high profile appearances along the way. One of her first stops was in NYC for an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she gave a hot performance of I Used To Know Her track "As I Am."
There was no fanfare or fancy set to set off H.E.R.'s performance, just her and her band. She began the hip-hop tinged joint standing at the keys and singing as her band moved and grooved behind her. She didn't stand behind the keyboard for long, though. She quickly stepped to the mic at the front of the stage and whipped out her trusty guitar as she breezed the song's cocky chorus with a seasoned verve beyond her short time in the industry. After a brief showcase for DJ Scratch to do his thing on the 1s and 2s, she brought the performance to its laid-back conclusion and asserted exactly why this is her time to shine.
Outside of the tour and EP, it looks like H.E.R. might be ready to drop her actual debut album (last year's H.E.R. was more of a compilation of her previous EPs) in the near future. We're still waiting to hear something official on that front, though. In the meantime, get into how H.E.R. rocks it live by watching her Tonight Show performance below.
