Following a remarkable run on season 2 of The Four, complete with a gutsy performance of the reigning Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama," singer Ali Caldwell is ready to capitalize on the all the attention she garnered with her reality vocal competition appearances. Her first single, “Colors,” is a catchy, uptempo tune showcasing her impressive range. Her voice is strong and confident over a track that feels like a throwback to R&B of the early 2000s, with its electronic strings and drum kicks.
Though on the surface the song is seemingly an ode to a love so fulfilling that one’s view of the world is recreated with vivid and brilliant hues, the New Jersey-native says it touches on something much deeper. “It’s about embracing the beauty in diversity and unity. Seeing life in so many ways, we have a decision to either live in the dark or live in the light where life is bright and colorful.” She adds, “When we can 100% open our eyes and hearts and see the true beauty in each other, then we will we see true beauty is bright and colorful and not bland and dull. It’s about loving and accepting through the barriers that society constantly tries to build around us.” It seems the rising star is wasting no time using her platform to make powerful statements while giving us a bop to dance to at the same time.
