GRAMMY Award-winning producer Benny Blanco released his first solo project in December, further cementing his reputation as a hitmaker. But the artist isn’t resting on his laurels, as he’s got even more surprises for us. He’s showing us he can not only cold rock a party, set the mood in the bedroom and even inspire change with the release of a remix of his single “I Found You” featuring Calvin Harris and Miguel.
Originally sung by Calvin Harris, “I Found You” is a midtempo pop song in the vein of the fun albeit generic club banger. But for the refix, Blanco takes things down a notch with a little help from singer and amateur gymnast Miguel. The track is no longer a party starter, but a Quiet Storm-ready ballad tailor-made for your next sexy-time playlist. Against sparse piano with some instrumental accompaniment, Miguel shares his love for the woman who gives his life meaning. While the lyrics are just as sparse as the accompaniment, with the first and second verses being the same, Miguel ups the emotional weight of his voice. If you had any doubt about his true feelings, he’s clearly trying to rectify it.
In addition to releasing a new version of the track, Blanco has also shared a very timely visual. The clip tells the story of a young immigrant girl, Nilda from Honduras. The clip is a very raw and emotional five-minute documentary about the immigrant experience. It is reminiscent of Fall Out Boy's video for "I'm Like A Lawyer The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off," which told the story of a child soldier in Uganda. In this case, however, Nilda's story is real – a little too real, telling the story of how immigrants looking for hope find anything but at every turn. It is also very sobering detour from the carefree original visual.
“I Found You” is featured on Benny Blanco’s Friends Keep Secrets, EP. The 7-track project also features the aforementioned Ty Dolla $ign, Swae Lee and others.
