Guordan Banks has been working behind the scenes for quite some time, but it was his oft-covered sleeper hit "Keep You In Mind" that broke him through to the spotlight. With a few years passing since that milestone, the singer-songwriter is looking to enchant listeners once again with the release of his new track "Can't Keep Runnin'."
On the song, which has been floating around unofficially since late last year, Guordan expresses his love of and frustrations with a lover who can't seem to make up her mind. He is ready for love, however, and is prepared to lock it down if given the green light. And we know he's really for real because he interpolates a healthy portion of The Gap Band's "Yearning For Your Love" for the track. It's there in parts of the verse, the entirety of the chorus and in a few of the vamps throughout the song. No one's gonna shell out that kind of dough for a sample clearance if it ain't really real. All that said, it's a decent mid-tempo number that holds the attention, though it would've been more interesting if it didn't rely so heavily on the nostalgia of the interpolation and gave us a bit more of Guordan's own ideas.
