DMV Bouncers: Celebrate The 25th Anniversary Of Mary J. Blige's 'My Life' & Sip On Curated Wines At 'My Life, My Wine'

Mary J. Blige's sophomore album My Life officially turns 25 years old in November, but fans are commemorating the 25th anniversary of Queen Mary's classic body of work all year long at various events and tributes. Coming up in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, May 21st at City Winery DC is a unique celebration of the breakthrough album at My Life, My Wine. Described as a wine pairing and album listening happy hour, Mary's My Life will be played in its entirety and there'll be an exploration of various wines that pair best with the music.

My Life, My Wine is the brainchild of two music lovers and DJs, DJ Pheelin' It and Dr. DeepCrates, who are also wine enthusiasts. Together they operate under the name Vine of the Rhyme, and this event is part of a monthly series co-hosted by rapper/lawyer Tracey Lee who brings an artist's perspective to the table. In April they celebrated the 25th anniversary of Nas' Illmatic at Illmatic Sippin', and the series is slated to continue throughout the summer and feature more classic albums.

According to the Vine of the Rhyme team, it was important to combine wine with hip-hop and R&B. "We focus on music from the diaspora because that's what we listen to and don't believe wine can only be associated with classical and jazz. We want our folks to feel included."
