Beyoncé Takes Us To The Pride Lands In 'Spirit'

While we're sure a lot of the excitement about the soon-to-be-released The Lion King remake is about genuine nostalgia, we've got to be honest. One of the biggest draws of the film is the fact that it will feature the voice of Beyoncé. The film will also be accompanied by a companion album, The Lion King: The Gift, which will feature a host of artists as well as Queen Bey herself on the inspirational track "Spirit." We've already heard the single, and now Bey is hitting us with gorgeous visuals to bring the song to life.

The video begins with beautiful scenes that looked to be filmed in an African desert and featuring black people of every hue. Soon we see Beyoncé in all her regal glory. Color plays a big part here, as Bey and the dancers and extras (which include her daughter Blue Ivy Carter) in a variety of hues from pink to royal blue to chartreuse. The colorful outfits matched with the gorgeous backdrops of natural beauty give the video a cinematic quality of its own, but for added measure, they also splice in clips from The Lion King to remind us of the film tie-in.

"Spirit" isn't the only new song that will be included on The Lion King: The Gift. The Beyoncé-curated companion album will feature several African artists — including Tiwa SavageTeknoBurna Boy and Shatta Wale — alongside North American acts like Tierra WhackChildish GambinoKendrick Lamar and Pharrell Williams. Look for the set to release this Friday along with the film and prepare yourself for both by watching "Spirit" below.
