Childish Gambino Gets 'Lost In You' For Triple J's 'Like A Version'

The musical alter ego has become a time-honored tradition in the biz. It's how we got the likes of Sasha Fierce, Mimi, B-Rocka and even Brook Lynn (bonus points if you can match each alter ego to its artist). However, things took a turn for the confusing when Donald Glover made a trip Down Under and made an appearance on Triple J's ongoing Like A Version series. The actor once again dusted off his musical alter ego Childish Gambino to deliver yet another cover for the program. But this wasn't just any cover, as he took on Chris Gaines' 1999 track "Lost In You." If you never knew that Chris Gaines existed, that's because he doesn't. He happens to be the pop star alter ego of country music superstar Garth Brooks. Still following?

Alter ego confusion aside, "Lost In You" was always a gem of a song and even landed Garth his first and only Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 charts. For his cover, Childish Gambino infused the song with a bit of soul thanks to a bit of organ and some highly skilled backing singers. The church-like feel of the organ adds an Al Green-esque quality to the proceedings that's only amplified by Gambino's now signature falsetto, which caresses the romantic lyrics and sets this forgotten track in a completely different light. As a matter of fact, we kinda wouldn't mind if he included this on that final project that he's been teasing for the better part of three years now.

This marks the second time that he's impressed for the series (the first being an unexpected cover of Tamia's "So Into You") and, quite honestly, we're already imagining what he would come out of his bag with if he did a trifecta. While we ponder that, get into Childish Gambino's take on "Lost In You" below.
