Lianne La Havas Returns With A 'Bittersweet' Melody & Makes Her 'COLORS' Debut

2020 seems to be a year of returns, with many artists preparing to unleash newness on us in the coming months. You can include British songbird Lianne La Havas in that number. We last heard from the singer way back in 2015 when she released her stellar sophomore set Blood. While the singer-songwriter hasn't been entirely quiet since then, we haven't gotten any new solo music from her in the five years since. She breaks that streak now, though, with the release of her brand-new track "Bittersweet."

"Bittersweet" is a return to form for Lianne. A soft and, well, bittersweet melody anchors the song. A repeating piano melody is front and center with rolling drums and guitar rounding out the soundbed. It's Lianne's dynamic vocal that is the main attraction, though. It starts quiet and contemplative on the verse before rising in intensity and volume by the chorus. In fact, this is perhaps one of the most powerful vocals we've ever heard her deliver, showing that she definitely means business this time around.

New music from her is good, but to sweeten things even more, she stopped by COLORS Studios to give us the first live take on the track as well. Dressed in a fiery orange frock and on a set with just her and a mic, she exudes the quiet cool that she's become known for. However, when the song's more involved moments come, she truly comes alive and her face lights up with emotion, making this one a must watch.

Word on the street is that there's a new Lianne La Havas album on the horizon. As a matter of fact, it might be arriving sooner than you think. Check out both her single "Bittersweet" and her COLORS performance below and keep your eyes and ears open for more to come from Lianne.
