The last time we heard from singer Leven Kali he was kinda, sorta, maybe crushing on his "Homegirl" along with Topaz Jones and Smino. As he prepares to bring us his Hi Tide in the coming months, though, he's back on his solo tip as he drops his player-ific new jam "12345 (Get Real)."
The cut, co-produced by Sol Was and Daniel Memmi, is a slice of West Coast R&B that captures the laid-back feel of California quite perfectly. It's buoyed by a thick synth bass line that's perfect to bounce along to while riding down the streets. Other synths are added into the mix as well, including a dreamy melody line and some guitar riffs that keep the vibe going strong. Leven stays pretty true to form on the song, as well, expressing his need to "get real" on this particular evening. "Gimme 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 / I just wanna feel alive / Baby don't kill the vibe / Can we get real tonight?" he sings on the chorus is his signature tone. Everything sounds so good here and we're sure if you put this one on you won't have any trouble convincing anyone to "get real."
With "Homegirl" and now "12345 (Get Real)," Hi Tide is shaping up to be just the vibe we need as we prepare to slide into the warmer months of the year. Go ahead and get real with Leven Kali when you press play.
