T.Lucas & Substantial Reminisce Over Lost Love On 'Wishing Well'

As they gear up to release a new EP later this spring, the DMV’s own T.Lucas and Substantial drop another dope track from the project. Following lead single "The New Balance," which featured DC’s DJ RBI, the duo displays a bit of range with softer, more sentimental storytelling on “Wishing Well.” T.Lucas recounts lost love over a beautifully mellow groove noting, “Ya perfume lingers like Sade singing of pain / Bringing the rain to a sunny day / Forget all of the money, bae / It’s just me and you now / Let’s just run away.” The jazz-infused, Substantial-produced track matches his flow and features passionate vocals from songstress Stephanie Gayle, dreamy keys and Malik Hunter’s driving bass guitar.

This latest release serves as another taste of what we can expect from the duo’s forthcoming EP, Dirty Sneakers. Set to drop on May 22nd, the five-track project was produced entirely by Substantial and is described as an “audio journey with T.Lucas as he shares the ups and downs of the path he has traveled.” In a statement they explain, “To many people, sneakers are a status symbol. The brand, price and condition of your sneakers are sometimes a reflection, accurate or not, of where you are in life. 'Dirty Sneakers' could be a symbol of the struggle, where you have been or even your level of comfort with where you are in life. Like most things, it's based on your perspective.” They add, “Every song is a metaphorical scuff or polish as we listen and attempt to walk in his shoes.”
