Koffee Lets Loose During 'Lockdown'

Reggae songstress Koffee has scored another hit with her latest single “Lockdown.” The summer jam, produced by dancehall hitmaker Dane Ray, has been a mainstay on the streaming charts since it dropped nearly two weeks ago, and the recently released visual is sure to add fuel to the steady burning fire. Co-directed by Yannick Reid, Habibi and Koffee, the sun-soaked capture is chock full of pure post-quarantine joy. We catch glimpses of Koffee riding through the streets of Jamaica and clowning with friends, including Popcaan and Dre Island, all against the colorful and breathtaking island landscape.

Though the world remains in various stages of the process to “open outside,” both the track and the video are timely. Koffee explains, “When I was putting together this song, I was thinking to myself: ‘What would be the first thing I’d want to do coming out of quarantine?’ It’s been a rough couple of months globally, and so having some fun again and connecting with people again, feeling that excitement, that’s what was on my mind."

“Lockdown” rides the steady wave of success and exposure the 20-year-old star has seen since the release of her 2019 EP Rapture. The celebrated project earned her the 2020 GRAMMY award for Best Reggae Album, making her the first woman and youngest person to do win this category. It seems she’s still settling into the newfound fame and widespread attention, as she says, “I did not expect this at all, and it’s really amazing.”
