Snoh Aalegra Takes On Usher's 'U Remind Me' For 'When Sounds Collide'

Snoh Aalegra has certainly managed to separate herself from the array of female artists taking up the airwaves. The Iranian/Swedish songstress has a style and grace all her own, and she recently put her spin on a classic by the one and only Usher. For her interpretation of his 2001 hit “U Remind Me,” she slowed things down to a more sultry tempo, backed only by producer/keyboardist Doctor O. Whereas the original had us headed to the dance floor in an attempt to move like Usher, Snoh's version has us in our feels and reaching for the tissue box. Still, there’s nothing wrong with a little ugly cry, especially as Snoh provides the sounds to soothe.

This special performance is part of When Sounds Collide, a partnership between media company Genius and luxury fashion house Burberry. The campaign is a celebration of the Thomas Burberry Monogram Summer Collection, which is said to “embody the free spirit and optimism of summer.” The vibrant line is a detour from Burberry's iconic tartan design and is meant to exemplify the “idea of paying homage to the creatives that paved the way while still making something completely different and new—an unexpected twist on a classic.” Fans get a prime peak at the collection, as both Snoh and Doctor O are decked out in select pieces in the accompanying visual, with Snoh sporting the monogram print turtleneck bodysuit, leggings and high-top sneakers.

Watch Snoh Aalegra’s unexpected cover of Usher’s “U Remind Me” below, and keep an eye out for a forthcoming essay to be published by Genius as part of the campaign. This piece will explore “how sounds have clashed over the past 20 years to create a genreless future of music.”
