There is, of course, nothing that the music lover loves more than the gift of music. Vinyl is once again all the rage and, lucky for everyone, two massive box sets from ‘80s pop and R&B royalty Prince and Sade were released this year.
The estate of His Royal Purpleness dropped the super deluxe edition of his classic 1987 album Sign O’ The Times back in September and it is chock-full of musical greatness. Spanning a massive 13 LPs, the vinyl version gives you the remastered double album, singles and edits released from the set, a deep dive into Prince’s vault with 45 previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1979 and 1987 and a double LP of the Sign O’ The Times Tour in Utrecht and live DVD of the show recorded at Paisley Park. Tying it all up in a big purple bow is a 120-page hardcover book featuring Prince’s handwritten lyrics and rare photos and new liner notes that include commentary from Dave Chappelle and Lenny Kravitz to ensure your favorite Prince fan will be having a happy holiday.
Not to be outdone, Sade released their 6-LP box set This Far which spans the group’s complete discography. Each of Sade’s six albums — Diamond Life, Paradise, Stronger Than Pride, Love Deluxe, Lovers Rock and Soldier Of Love — are included in the set and have been remastered from high-resolution digital transfers of the recordings’ stereo master mixes. Those weren’t the only things painstakingly recreated though, as they also reproduced the original sleeves for each album in exact detail for the occasion.
Whether you go with Prince, Sade or both this holiday, you can’t go wrong with these box sets under your tree. — D-Money
