For her first release of the new year, singer/songwriter India Shawn chose to flip the script on a story of budding love gone sour. Though hard to believe, the stunning songstress found inspiration for her latest single “Too Sweet” featuring Unknown Mortal Orchestra after being ghosted. In a recent interview, she reveals, “I was hanging with a guy friend, we cracked open a bottle of pinot noir, had a beautiful convo and shared a lil moment. I was so excited about him the next day, I really felt like he was a match, but he ended up going ghost on me.” Rather than wallow in the pain of rejection, she decided to change the narrative. She explains, “Instead of writing another sad love song, I decided to reframe the story and empower myself by saying I was just too sweet for him! That’s why he’s at a loss for words.”
As the final coup de grâce to her cowardly, Casper-like comrade, she decided to completely slay the track’s accompanying visual. While some may view post-break-up photoshoots (and subsequent social media posts) as a means to show one’s former lover exactly what they’re missing, the madebyJAMES-directed visual showcases India in all of her unbothered glory. Adorned in stunning, high-fashion ensembles, the clip is a brilliant and beautiful way to celebrate one’s own spirit instead of sulking after someone else failed see it. Sorry – not sorry – to that man.
