Jorja Smith has had us vibin' for the past few years while anticipating what else she has up her sleeve. Well, now we know she has a new project officially on the way. The British songstress recently announced that her upcoming set Be Right Back will be arriving this May. In addition to that, she also dropped her latest single "Gone" for our listening pleasure.
"Gone" contemplates a common question that we all have in life. Over moody production provided by Rahki, Jorja wonders what she can do when her loved ones have left. With verses describing different kinds of loss, it's a heartfelt chorus that ties it all together. "My God, I lost you at the corner / On God, I lost you in the moment," she sings. "Why now and not a little later? / Tell me how the world seems to dance alone without you / Yeah, yeah / Tell me how to keep my world moving on without you."
"There’s something about being able to write about one thing and for it to mean so many different things to others," Jorja told Stereogum about the song. "I love that this song, well any of my songs really, will be interpreted in different ways, depending on the experiences of the people listening. This one is just me asking why people have to be taken from us."
"Gone" and her previous single "Addicted" will join six other as-yet-unreleased tracks on Be Right Back when the EP is released on May 14th. You can listen to "Gone" right here and stick around to peep the upcoming release's tracklist.
