Robert Glasper & His Many Friends Check In For Residencies At The Kennedy Center & Blue Note This Fall

The pandemic caused a huge dearth of live music throughout the world, leaving fans and artists alike jonesing for a chance to experience it again. That explains the explosion of announcements for tours and performances from our faves now that the COVID-19 vaccines have made things a bit more normal. One of those faves, Robert Glasper, has something special in the works for fans, though, with residencies lined up at both The Kennedy Center and Blue Note this month through November.

Starting tonight (September 9th) and ending on September 19th, Robert will be presenting two experiences for The Kennedy Center. For the first four nights, the musician/producer will present his supergroup Dinner Party alongside collaborator Terrace Martin for the crew's DC debut. Joining them for the four-night outing will be vocalist PhoelixDJ Jahi Sundance, drummer Marcus Gilmore, bass player Burniss Travis and possibly a few other surprise guests. Then Robert is giving the venue the Black Radio experience September 16th-19th with Travis and Sundance returning along with rapper D SmokeChris Dave and guitar player Isaiah Sharkey. This set will also feature as-yet-announced special guests as well — and if you're familiar with Glasper's Black Radio albums, you know that guest list is probably stacked.

After rocking DC, he's hitting up NYC's Blue Note for a 33-night residency lasting from October 1st through November 7th. Each set will offer a different curated experience and pair him with a host of different artists — including LedisiBilalPJ Morton, Meshell NdegeocelloKeyon Harrold and many more luminaries. This residency will also include Black Radio and Dinner Party nights in addition to tributes to jazz heroes Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea.

The first, which will be presented on October 8th, features the Robert Glasper Electric Trio (with guests Travis, Sundance and Justin Tyson). He'll then return on October 29th for another Dinner Party show with the Electric Trio lineup, Martin and special guest Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah.
