Producer Double AA has given us two things with the release of his single “Time”: An opportunity to hear more RL and a reason to hum a Cyndi Lauper tune in 2021.
On the Rhodes piano and electro-bass infused track, Double AA provides a mood-based space for RL to inject an undeniable dose of soul into Lauper's familiar "Time After Time" chorus, as he laces verses with reassuring words of refuge. “Whenever you feel weak / Seven days a week / You ain’t gotta go through it alone,” he sincerely croons. This is all before belting his heart out at the end of the song to drive the message home.
A member of the Bounce Gvng collective, which puts together events such as the cool-sounding Bounce House writer and artist retreat in Atlanta this coming weekend, Double AA released this track via his Gvng Music Distro company. Clocking in at just a little over 2 minutes, “Time” serves more as a teaser for what we can expect from RL and his upcoming work with this producer on the boards. As Double AA posted on his IG page, “This song, 1st of many!” We don't know who's more excited – him or us.
