Hope Tala Is Done 'Tiptoeing' Around Love

Singer-songwriter Hope Tala, one of the UK’s brightest young stars, shows no signs of dimming her light any time soon. The 2020 release of her EP Girl Eats Sun was met with critical acclaim and her more recent, relatable single “MAD” brilliantly captured all the feels of love separated by distance. This time, she teams up with producer Greg Kurstin for a bossa nova-inspired bop entitled “Tiptoeing.” Over the vibrant and free-flowing track, she tackles the uneasiness that sometimes comes with the uncertainty of a budding relationship. She explains, “‘Tiptoeing’ is about the dance we do when we’re at the threshold of romance. It’s about treading carefully when you’re not quite sure what the other person is feeling, but desperately wanting to take a risk because you’re young and life is short.”

For the Lois Russier-directed video, Hope and her crew do what young girls do as they frolic around the grounds of an elegant estate. The setting looks to be a boarding school, with the girls giggling at the dinner table and scribbling notes in the courtyard adorned in uniforms. About halfway through, Hope's surroundings shift as she's suddenly too big for her quarters. It seems the adorable capture is meant to mimic the moment when feelings of romance become too strong, and likely uncomfortable, to ignore.
