to do a post on why Common went #1, why Kweli outsold Swizz, and why Kanye is the internet's favorite and Curtis isn't. For real.

It's Official, Y'all

We initially dropped that DJ Soul's "Assorted Donuts" mixtape was nominated for a VIBE Award with a little trepidation. But now it's been confirmed. Clarity: The VH-1 Soul VIBE Awards Special. We call upon anyone out there that knows the story behind this to come forward. At any rate, Congrats to the man DJ Soul; we sure hope he wins.

More Goodness For You Ledisi Fans

Check out Ledisi sangin' her latest single "Alright" and holding court during an in-store performance to promote her blazing new CD Lost and Found in the video above.

And speaking of "Alright," there's a treat for you go-go heads out there. LedLo Music has produced a go-go remix to the song that you can listen to on their MySpace page. What you feel like doin', y'all? Feel like movin' that body. Sorry we got a little carried away. Moving right along...

Brickfish has launched a contest to design a tour poster for Ledisi. The winning designer will be hand-selected by Ledisi and will "receive an iPod loaded with her new album Lost and Found plus have their design be the poster for Ledisi's tour." The contest runs from now until October 10th, 2007 so get to designing all of you graphically-inclined folks.

Check out more video of Ledisi having church while performing "Today" live after the bounce:

Industry & Culture

'Worksafe' is the New Black

office2.jpg

A little late to the party on this one, but until SoulBounce has a dedicated DJ (hint hint, managing editor says "Apply!"), you can rest knowing that someone out there is addressing your daily worksafe music-listening needs.

Soul-Tracks (which tends to be a pretty reliable source of info for us) has teamed up with Yahoo's LAUNCHcast to initiate "Soul Revival", a station that we would've done ourselves if we weren't so obsessed with Hip-Hop half the time (and if we had a DJ; hint #2). Via Yahoo Music:

Soul music was the pulse of the urban communities of the 60s. It
helped to evolve R&B with different styles, ranging from Motown to
the Philly sound to Southern Soul. From the smooth-sounding production
to the raw and gritty vocals, soul music has been a mainstay in
America. Although throughout the years soul music has branched out from
the likes of James Brown, Sam & Dave and Aretha Franklin, it has
never faded away. Soul is back and better than ever with artists like
Eric Roberson, Alice Smith and N'Dambi. So do yourself a favor, and
take in the sounds of the "Soul Revival"--you won't be disappointed.
So that means no "Ay Bay Bay"? Bummer. But on the serious, this is right in line with our own as yet unpublished manifesto. There's a community of web-surfing music listeners out there that has been under-served, and not being assaulted by the sounds of MC MurderDeath and the JumpSuit Boyz every time you log into Yahoo sounds pretty golden. We're so there.

Also, don't get too used to the handy-dandy worksafe-themed Deezer jukebox over in our far right column. The industry has caught on and, well, you know how they are.

Interviews

SoulBounce.com Chats With Ledisi

Ledisi_Lost_and _Found_Cover.jpg

In honor of the release of her brand new CD, Lost and Found, SoulBounce.com is proud to present our very first artist interview with the powerful songstress, Ledisi. It was a joy and a delight to chat with Ledisi about her major label debut, and she opened up on a variety of topics including what inspired the new disc, working with Miguel Migs (yeah, we had to represent for the house heads), her love of performing live (even in the rain) and what we can expect next from her.

We've listened to Lost and Found, and the album is a bonafide gem. In a sea of major-label mediocrity, Ledisi's voice shines and the songs are meaningful, thought-provoking, soulful, jazzy and funky. This one belongs in your collection. Lost and Found is in stores now.

The 'Save Amy' Campaign Gets Contentious; Pete Rock & CL Smooth "Like Oil and Water"

amy_splashonbeach.jpg
[Splash]

While Amy Winehouse was soaking up the sun in the Caribbean, her in-laws were initiating a campaign to halt sales of her music until she cleans up her act.

The parents of her husband Blake Fielder-Civil have said both the singer and their son are drug addicts and are in denial. "Georgette and I both believe that they are drug addicts, and they don't believe they are," Giles Fielder-Civil told BBC Radio 5 Live this morning (August 28). "I think they believe they are recreational users of drugs, and they are in control, but it seems to Georgette and I that this isn't the case."

He suggested that the pair were taking crack, and on occasion there had been heroin use.

Video SoulBounce

Video: Common - Drivin' Me Wild (feat. Lily Allen)

Common's new single "Drivin' Me Wild" (feat. Lily Allen) off his chart-toppin' effort Finding Forever.

Pfft...what's Jeremy Piven aka Ari Gold doing in the video? Official cameo. Was that a trade-off for Kanye's howdy-do on Entourage last night...

Oh I'm supposed to be talking about the single. Sorry, the kid doesn't do mushy-mushy relationship tracks.

Cop that Finding Forever though.

Soul Fashioned

Broken Glass. Everywhere. You Think Amy Cares?

http://www.soulbounce.com/soul/blog_images/amyhouseshoes.jpg

Stop worrying about the beehive for like five seconds and direct your attention downward.

We realize Amy Winehouse is going through lots of stuff right now, but one thing that's always dogged this SoulBounce editor are those darn house shoes/ballerina slippers she's seen out wearing in every photo. Why not Jordans or Manolos? Does she wear them to keep her balance? To stay more "grounded" and "down to earth"? Also, how quickly do they get dirty and does she have an unlimited lifetime supply of them?

Everyone has their trademark, Madonna's pointy bra and MJ's glove, por exemple. But why would Amy choose such a pedestrian, domestic, throwaway accessory to constantly be seen in?

That's so not diva. So not Soul-Fashioned. Help us out with this one.
