Our Work Has CLEARLY Just Begun

The ever-reliable Idolator has pointed to an article revealing the disturbing news that "Sixty-three percent of American adults listen to the radio every day, says a new survey from American Media Services. And the number among 25-34 adults is even stronger: 79 percent tune in to radio at least once a day."

Can I get a resounding "WTH" from the choir, please?

This seems rather odd to me, seeing as how most of the people that take issue with radio programming fit into that age bracket and beyond. It's one of the chief reasons SoulBounce was created. But I suppose everyone can't be as progressive as us and our dedicated, steadily growing audience.

So I'm going to ask the same question as Jess: Do you still listen to the radio? If so, for how long? And, God help me, WHY?

Yes, thank you for mentioning WPFW, DJ Stylus. I listen to jazz and Democracy Now on the morning commute, then drivetime jazz on the way home. If I go out to lunch, I'll catch Kojo Nnamdi but I listen to most of his shows via podcasts. Other than traffic, weather and local news, I have no use for radio.

I listen to the radio every day. Gots to get my Morning Edition and Diane Rehm fix. Sometimes I'm on the radio too. Ain't too many of us independent voices left.

I don't listen to the radio for music, because most of the shit they play is wack and it's the same ten songs every hour anyway.

I don't listen to radio for musical content, but for news and information. If I listen to any radio, it is usually CBC Radio 1 or CBC Radio 2.

Wow! I haven't listened to the radio in so long. Music just isn't the same and it's as if they place a cd in the cd player and set it to repeat.

Not really. Not unless I'm tired of a CD.
I sometimes listen to Talk Radio though... :)

Well, I can kinda see why. Long commutes to and from work. Another voice besides the one inside our heads. No need to recharge and/or reload equipment. Just click and turn up. The quality and selection sucks, however for all those people still listening to it--where is their demand for much else?

Nope, don't listen to the radio for music...I do however listen for news (I'm a student journalist so I have to). Radio as far as music goes went down the toilet years ago. I mean really, how many times can you listen to the same line up/countdown/gossip and nonsense speak??? It's just a waste of time. But that just goes to show how much power our generation has. But we constantly get dicked over by these media corporations that are force feeding us garbage.

I second that .... WTF!!
