James Brown's Legacy Explored at Princeton
One month shy of the one-year-anniversary of the Godfather of Soul's passing will be a conference at Princeton University discussing the cultural impact that James Brown had on music. "Aint That A Groove: The Legacy of James Brown" will include a concert film screening, roundtable and panel discussions featuring Questlove, and closing remarks by Dr. Cornel West, current Professor of Religion and African-American Studies at Princeton. Needless to say, without James Brown, hip hop would have likely amounted to the fad that many thought it would be in the early '80s. It will be interesting to see whether any discussions include Brown's impact on society outside of this country, i.e. his influence on Fela Kuti AKA the "James Brown of Africa." Should be interesting to say the least. Hopefully all in attendance will have a funky good time.
