Lupe Fiasco Making Promises (Threats)

lupe_daydreamin_shoot.jpgLupe Fiasco's The Cool drops the same day as Mary J. Blige's Growing Pains, so this is probably the last time I'll be writing about him. Kidding! "The Cool" was my favorite joint from Food and Liquor, mainly because the musical backdrop kind of reminded me of some vintage Tribe. Funny that. So, although I'm personally not getting into his most recent singles, I love that he's expanding on the themes set forth in that track with his new joint. But, he's going for high-concept by using three different characters on the album-- The Cool, The Streets and The Game-- which is way too uber-thinky and avant garde for someone that eschewed growing up on uber-thinky avant garde rap. Also, he promises to retire after his third album (I predict that might happen sooner than he thinks, as in forced) and that the CRS (Kanye, Lupe, Pharrell) project is still on the way, which should be the most uber-thinky, avant garde, Louis Vuitton-y rap album we'll ever hear.
