New D'Angelo? Not Quite.

Thumbnail image for Dangelo_Yoda.jpgAny astute SoulBounce reader may have noticed in last week's new release roundup that a new D'Angelo import CD was listed. But don't break open the piggy bank just yet, y'all. Even D'Angelo himself is giving the bizarrely titled Yoda: The Monarch of Neo-Soul the side-eye on the cover above. And for good reason, because this isn't an official release of new material at all but a mixtape of sorts from Think Differently Music Group with previously unreleased tracks and random live songs from Mr. Archer.

No wonder we didn't hear jack diddly squat about this when everyone and their grandma is fiending for new D'Angelo like Pookie from New Jack City. But we should have known something was suspect about this joint from the title alone. Yoda: The Monarch of Neo-Soul? That's just wrong on so many levels. As far as this new old material is concerned, hardcore D'Angelo fans may want to make the investment but wake us when some bonafide new music from him hits streets or if he gets back in the gym and takes some sexy new photos, whichever comes first.

The back cover including a track list can be found after the bounce.

I spent a bit waiting for this to get to me. seriously why!? thats the only question i have, why release something so half a**'d?

luck me I've got the new al green to help clear the after taste

I just picked up the album this weekend. It is for sale now in any major record store in Belgium. I had the feeling there was something wrong with the recording just by judging the cover... lack of style! and the subtitle: "Yoda the monarch of neo soul", ahum… this for sure couldn't be an official release. Mr Archer would find this title an insult (and so do all his real fans).

My judgement: This is a badly marketed release. It's misleading… On the other hand bearing in mind that it is NOT the new D'Angelo album, it's worth the purchase. See it as a collectors item.

"Think differently music" should have promoted it as: a collection of unreleased tracks + some live footage. What is so sad, is that the inlay doesn't give any information at all.
When and where was this music recorded????
This info is vital to all fans. I think the "new" tracks are from the period between the "Brown Sugar" and "Voodoo" albums.

Those 5 new tracks are signature and uncut D'Angelo Hammond joints and quite frankly I can say I am addicted!

The first track on the album is really weird: it's a collection of snippets from collaborations D'Angelo did (these are all known/published tracks).

How they managed to clear this stuff is a mystery to me.
Good thing about it is that it offers previously unreleased material of the genius that can be explored.

Let's hope that Mr Archer can get his act back together and give us a genuine album in the near future!

Instead we'll have to do with a badly packaged collectors item.

I Bought this CD while London, even without listen or reading any reviews about it. DAMN i should´ve, because i feel like i´ve just waisted £15 for nothing. The track listing says there are 15 tracks, but it only plays 12. D´Angelo what da ?%#& is going on MAN?

that sounds so stupid....your real fans are still waiting for you D...(I) LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!

I downloaded this album about two months ago and afterwards felt like a crack addict that just got gagged by a rock of soap. I should have read the track listing, but I needed a fix too bad to pay attention. So very disappointing.

I was giving YA'LL the side eye wondering when you were going to give us the low low on this. You can't just be including that on the list without 'splainin yourselves. Now I know what's up...which is not a dayum thing.

Yeah I peeped this on the list too and got all excited. Went to poke around Amazon and couldn't find anything, so I gave up. One of these day's he'll get it together.
