There's no shame in stanning for Jill Scott. She digs kind of deep when she sings, doesn't she? Like she's singing from the guts of her ancestors. Whether she's authoritative and bellowing or teasing and genteel, she doesn't waste a single delicious note and that's why her live performances are the stuff of legend. Her Live in Paris DVD/CD, which you can pre-order at Amazon, hits February 5th and I wish I could get my hands on some of the tracks. Particularly the live performances "My Petition" and "Whatever." But these clips after the bounce should be enough to hold me over.

I love Jill cuz she bridges a gap between her audience and her music. You can tell she loves and respect this art form. I can't think of a single performance live or otherwise that Jill has ever disconnected from that soulful filling. I saw her perform on Ellen with some sneakers and jeans on, just chillin, and blowing her larynx out like it wasn't nothing but fun for her. Lyrically she's brilliant, and by far has owned a place in the category of legendary female vocalist.
And with that kind of humility, she'll be around for a while...a long while.
