Battle of the Beats
Battle Of The Badu Beats
Although Erykah Badu is a true original in everything from the way that she sings to her style of dress, some of her finest moments have come when she's done covers of other artist's original songs. It's only fitting that in commemoration of Du Day, that we have an all-Badu Battle of the Beats and put her versions of three soul classics head-to-head against each other.
Up first is her version of Atlantic Starr's "4 Leaf Clover," which she included on her debut disc, Baduizm, and made the song her own. Second in line for your consideration is Badu's blazing cover of "Stay" by Chaka Khan from her Live CD. And last but far from least is her delicious duet with D'Angelo and their take on the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell classic "Your Precious Love" from the High School High soundtrack.
So tell us, SoulBouncers, which remake reigns supreme?

MarvalusOne | February 26, 2008 9:03 PM | PermalinkI'm NOT choosing. *pouts* I love them all.
But if I must, I gotta also go with 4 Leaf Clover...although Precious Love set off that Marvin is 60 tribute album. Darn, somehow I missed out on adding that HSH soundtrack to my collection.
Vivrant Thang | February 26, 2008 8:13 PM | PermalinkI'm voting for "Stay". Few artists have the nerve to cover Chaka Khan with the amount of passion she let loose on that track.
j. brotherlove | February 26, 2008 5:33 PM | PermalinkI'm gonna have to go with 4 Leaf Clover. She ripped it on the scatting portion and it kept the original arrangement although it has that "Baduizm".
