Gnarls Barkley's 'Run' Sounds A Little 'Crazy'

Upon first listening to "Run," Gnarls Barkley's first single from their upcoming April release The Odd Couple, some of the lyrics definitely seemed...um...interesting, and I made mention of it back when the track first premiered on SoulBounce. Now that I have full access to the lyrics, methinks that I might want to "Run" away from them or else get them some professional help.

You'll see what I mean after the jump.

Here's some of the more interesting lyrics I've found within the song:

Can't you feel the pain/
When the needle hits the vein/
Ain't nothing like the real thing...
All I'm saying is sometimes I'm more scared of myself/
You better/
move/
I said/
move...
Yeah I'm on the run/
See where I'm coming from/
When you see me coming run/
Before you see what I'm running from/
No time for question asking...
You can't win child/
We've all tried to/
You've been lied to/
It's all ready inside you/
Either you run right now/
Or you best get ready to die...

Wow. Alrighty then.

While I am very glad to hear that Cee-Lo wishes to warn the children, I'm still not quite sure what he's so concerned about. Is he worried about:

Intravenous drugs? (Can't you feel the pain/When the needle hits the vein/Ain't nothing like the real thing)
Monsters? (Before you see what I'm running from/No time for question asking)
A disease we've been infected with but don't know it ? (You've been lied to/It's all ready inside you)
Himself? (All I'm saying is sometimes I'm more scared of myself)

Good God...It all just sounds so apocalyptic...and dismal. Honestly, reading the words makes me not want to listen to the song at all. But it does have a good beat, and I can dance to it, so I'll just have to try not to concentrate on the words when I'm groovin' to it.

It's interesting how Gnarls Barkley's first single "Crazy" from their last album focused on craziness and paranoia as well:

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions have an echo
In so much space

Is Cee-Lo or Danger Mouse trying to tell us something? I don't know, but I hope that their new album rocks. If it's anything like St. Elsewhere, I'll be singing along to macabre lyrics and totally won't care. Can't wait.
