Lupe and Jill are Grammy Winners, but You'd Never Know It
Now, in all fairness, several categories weren't televised, but it may be worth pointing out that there's a segment of music lovers out there that has once again been underserved. Some of us don't live and die by Pop music and even more of us are over the age of 12. By trotting out our favorite vocalists for inexplicable duets and Gospel throwdowns but not showing them accept their awards, Grammy is marginalizing these artists even more and telling their fans they don't really matter as much. I can listen to and watch these folks sing all day, but I'd like to be able to see them win at a ceremony other than the Soul Train and NAACP Image Awards. I'm just saying...

Sorry to disappoint, Stylus. I got you next time.
What woulda really been funny is if nOva and I published our IM convo that we had during the ceremony. We were cutting up something terrible.
Butta | February 12, 2008 3:47 PM | PermalinkWord, nOva. Nuff said. I expected to see at least a couple of these categories announced on TV and to at least see them in the crowd. I did see Ledisi and unless I blinked, that was about it.
I have to admit that as much as I've talked slick about Amy, I was amused by her performance...in a good way. Her sly smile while singing those two songs was priceless. She looked good...as good as she can look these days. Her reaction to her win was touching. I really hope she gets her act together.
I want someone to contextualize why Solange was even there. She's not relevant. Was it to give RiRi her special brand of side eye when she pulled her "brother-in-law" up on the stage?
Vivrant Thang | February 12, 2008 1:58 AM | PermalinkDid you just call her "Butt-licious"? Oh wait, I mis-read. Carry on!
nOvaMaticI'm just disappointed that there was no live bloggery courtesy of Butta-licious.
Who was going to contextualize Solange's dress for me? Or provide revelatory exposition on that random keyboard at the end of the catwalk during Alicia Keys' performance on which she played like 5 notes? Didn't that bammette have a 50 piece band on stage?
Soulbounce left me hanging.
But seriously, for as far as she's fallen, wasn't Wino's triumphant moment just a wee bit touching? I gave her a hug in my mind for that.
And Beyoncé + Tina Turner = happy Stylus.
