Musiq's 'People Everyday' Remake: A Bad Look You Can Hear
![]()
I typically listen to a track more than once when I "First Spin" it in order to approach my blogginess with a solid perspective. This wasn't the case with Musiq Soulchild's remake of Arrested Development's "People Everyday" from the Meet the Browns soundtrack. I don't know what it is about this movie, but it's quickly on the road to bringing us one of the most misguided soundtracks ever. And just because it's a soundtrack doesn't mean it has to be bad (see: this). Anyway, the track features Estelle with the Dionne Farris co-sign, which makes this whole thing even more tragic since I happen to like her, and Musiq attempting to finesse the original's rap lyrics with some "soul." It's just an awkward, awkward thing. Not bad because it's a remake, but for every other reason you'll hear when you press "play."
Are we extra bitchy today for some reason? Hmm. Welcome to Monday.

What was the point? I was expecting there to be a new twist on the song or something.

Sharonda | March 17, 2008 7:31 PM | PermalinkThis could have been interesting if he had actually put some sort of new twist on the song instead of regurgitating the original. Seeing that he is a singer and not a rapper/spoken-word artist, why didn't he rearrange the melody and actually "sing" it. Every artist is entitled to a bomb every now and then. Good thing his last album was on point.

See, I on the other hand LOVEDEDED the Arrested Development song when it dropped. Anytime I hear it, it takes me straight back to undergrad when it set off many a house party back in the day. To hear this lame-o version of the track from an artist who I love makes me mad.
Butta | March 17, 2008 5:09 PM | PermalinkIt's not that bad.
But then again I never really liked this song.
ill Mami | March 17, 2008 4:59 PM | PermalinkI love Musiq like I love a check with my name on it, but this remake is booty.
Butta | March 17, 2008 4:58 PM | PermalinkI determined within a minute how horrible remakes can be. Some things are best left undone...and this should have definitely been one of them.
