When Ms. Ross Was Truly The Lady Boss
As you can probably tell, I've been in a nostalgic mood lately, using Women's History Month as my own personal tribute to my R&B lady loves. Well, I'd be remiss if I continued to do these without acknowledging the one artist to whom all of these modern day divas owe their swag. That's right, SoulBouncers, the only artist who can say that she mastered Motown, dominated disco and rejuvenated rhythm and blues.Ladies and gentlemen, show your love for Ms. Diane Ernestine Earle Ross, aka Diana, aka the Lady Boss.
With today being her 64th birthday, the SoulBounce editors were looking for a way to pay homage to the seven-time American Music Award winner. To say how much we appreciate one of the only artists to win both a Tony and Golden Globe AND have two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We were searching for a way to give Billboard's Female Entertainer of the Century her just due.
Well, we figured the best way to do that is to celebrate Rhonda, Chudney, Traci, Ross and Evan's mom at the time when she was at her absolute apex. It was 1978, the same year she was bold enough to play the world's oldest teenager in The Wiz, and fresh off her roles as a young Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues and the lead character in Mahogany.

This is when Barbara Walters interviews felt real. Like folks really wanted to be interviewed and not have some good PR.
You could actually hear Diana's insecurity and vulnerability and that makes it so cool!
