#86 Sheila E. 'The Glamorous Life'

One of the most interesting stories surrounding 1984's "The Glamorous Life" is the fact that the song Sheila E. made famous wasn't even intended for her. Prince wrote the song for the girl group Apollonia 6, but after learning that lead singer Apollonia Kotero didn't plan on staying past her starring stint in the motion picture Purple Rain, he gave the song to his newest protege, Sheila, who used it to launch her solo career.

Truthfully, I really can't imagine anyone else singing the cautionary tale about a young girl caught up in the pursuit of the lifestyles of the rich and famous, only to come to grips with the fact that "without love, it ain't much." The song reached #7 on Billboard's Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination. However, it was Sheila's drum solos during the live performances of 'Glamorous' that blew people away. From glow in the dark drumsticks to the near impossible act of drumming on one leg, Sheila cemented her status as a showstopper. At 51, she's still packing in huge audiences across the globe with her all-girl group C.O.E.D., doing what she does best. Glamorously, of course.
