'Black Lily' To Bloom In Philadelphia May 1-4
This year's festival boasts more screenings, workshops and panels and even includes a track for girls to expose them to DJing, music production, digital film editing and costume design. Black Lily will also honor eight women for their contributions to music and film during the festival. Honorees are femcee Bahamadia, Sweet Honey in the Rock founding member Bernice Johnson Reagon, classical music conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson, Hip-Hop Association president Martha Diaz, singer Meshell Ndegeocello and filmmakers Pearl Bowser, Stephanie Black and Tia Lessin. Artists scheduled to perform next week include Jaguar Wright, Lizz Wright, Ladybug Mecca, Imani Uzuri, Maya Azucena and a who's who of female DJs and underground soul and hip-hop acts. Tickets are still available for what is sure to be another history-making event. Be there or be mad that you missed it. See ya there!

Lawd Stylus you are a mess! LOL!
Malene was there last year with her several months preggie self working it in her electric blue dress.
And yes, how could I forget about the Nastees performance. I really miss them. Jilly and the Nastees were some of the foundation on which Lily was built. Man I'm SO mad I wasn't taping back then!
You never know who will come through so I am anticipating Butta's report. Lizz Fields...ahhhh that would set it off :)

I've been to Black Lily but I couldn't handle three days of it. I'd hop over that thin line between fan and fanatic. All them fine, smart, talented wimmins. Black Lily ain't gonna have me up on SmokingGun.com looking crazy!
Throwing my drawz on the stage and tryna sneak up on Tracy from the Jazzies so I could rub her head.
All it would take would be an appearance by Lizz Fields to send me over the edge.

camille | April 25, 2008 3:02 PM | PermalinkLast year was ridiculous. Seems like just yesterday. Got a first listen to Hate on Me and noticed Jilly wasn't wearing her ring. Was surprised by Amy popping out to perform. Introduced to Alice Smith for the first time. Good dialogue with DJ Beverly Bond. Great films. So much positivity and people with a passion for music and artistry...and girl power!
You're going to have a ball. Can't wait to see the footage you come back with. If I wasn't going to be at Derby, I definitely would have been back there this year.
Anyone in the Philly area and surrounding CANNOT miss this.
