Kanye West Tour Was Glowing...Or Not
Kanye West's "Glow In The Dark Tour which kicked off in Seattle this past Wednesday was either a bright spot in your week or not depending on who you ask. According to Rolling Stone, Kanye's 90-minute set was "stellar," while the Seattle Times has wriiten that Kanye took the concert experience to a "new planet." A concertgoer who was present at the first stop on the "Glow In The Dark Tour" had other thoughts, however. The concert was described to me as "just okay" and "wished Kanye could have hyped the crowd up more." Furthermore, it was stated that the only thing that really glowed in the dark were "the bottoms of his sneakers, technically speaking." Ouch. But the gold-colored dancers present for his song "Gold Digger" were given high marks. The other headliners (Lupe Fiasco, Rihanna, and N*E*R*D*) were all given pretty high ranks as well, and the set design held true to its futuristic look, since 'Ye was supposedly trapped onboard a rogue spaceship that was taking him to alien worlds. Not the biggest Kanye fan myself, but it certainly sounds interesting and worth a look if nothing else.

maybe i needed to step away from the hype...maybe i need to forget seeing other GOOD shows (Jay-Z @ Madison Square, Beck, The Roots, the 1st & 2nd time you see them) don't get me wrong, a. i'm a huge kayne fan b. i thought it was an above average...but i feel like everyone is buying into the hype. just because a computer in his show says 'he's the brightest star in the universe' doesn't mean we all have to agree. it looked pretty, yes. the remixed songs were cool, yes. but just because it has a narrative and he moves up and down on a platform doesn't make it groundbreaking...i wish the media weren't so shook and feel the need to suck his...
*i'd take my money back gladly (though i'd need NERD tix the next around) also, why the f*ck is Rhianna on the tour?!?!

Sorry, I'm just not a fan. Plus, she didn't perform "Pon De Replay". Highly disappointing. Yeah nothing "glowed" in the dark except for Kanye because "he's the brightest star in the universe" and he didn't interact with the audience much but it wasn't necessary! He was the only one on stage-no random dudes, the music kept going and going, he played Journey, he did this crazy extended version of "Flashing Lights" (!!!!!) and he didn't take a sip of water. And the stage? Incredible. I wasn't a big fan of the Kanye either and I really only went to see NERD (who, btw, KILLED IT even though Pharrell lost his voice) but he impressed me and proved to me that he has a giant ass ego for a reason.
