A Soulful Noise
What You Talkin' Bout, Erykah?
Now we all know the web that bloggers will spin especially after Alicia Keys' comments in the same exact magazine, Blender, about gangsta rap were taken out of context. To Erykah's credit, in the article she does explain that by being a double Pisces, she has a different perception of many things. Given her past work with the Nation of Islam and her latest album, New Amerykah Part One, speaks on Minister Louis Farrakhan and the NOI's message, this shouldn't be too far of reach for anyone to wrap their heads around. Hopefully, Erykah won't be having to issue a press statement clarifying her thoughts on the time-space-White people continuum. The article can be seen here.

Hey Stoneyisland! Sure, I'll buy your Erykah discography:) But you can use them as coasters or even decorate with them. Erykah has her unit from you, I'm sure she wouldn't mind, much love babes:)
jennifer | April 18, 2008 5:59 PM | PermalinkThat Blender piece is hilarious. I cast my vote with tigris2233 on this one.
DJStylus | April 18, 2008 2:04 PM | PermalinkLOL @ "tiny ass type". It truly is.

TheForest (aka Miss J) | April 18, 2008 8:16 AM | PermalinkReal Talk Jenny...I got her entire catalog:) never said she wasnt talented.....I just lost the passion for her, sort like the passion I use to have for a flat top fade:)now the million dollar question is will you buy all of my Badu CD's or should I just trash them? I mean I'm just asking? :) Walk in peace Jenny, it's all love beautiful.
stoneyisland | April 18, 2008 1:58 AM | PermalinkStoneybrooke: Um, I have no interest in meeting serial killers, as it seems you do (now if that's not crazy, I don't know what is) You really need to come up with some better analogies.
And get your facts straight boo. I didn't say I "know" Badu, I said I "met" her on two occasions and she came accross as a real person. And I can prove that I met her. I have an article and a picture to prove it. And I've interviewed tons of celebs and not all of them are humble, in fact, most of them are jerks. Badu is not though. She needs to look into your eyes so you can start donning crochet pants and beanie caps, lol.
Compassion? TD Jakes? Ha! I think he'd be infuriated with your negativity. He'd probably give you your OWN advice. But for real Stoney, go listen to Erykah's new CD. It's made especially for people like you. And make sure you cop the other two dropping later this year. You'd really benefit from her knowledge and wisdom. Enjoy babycakes:)

Stoneybrooke: I've met Ms. Badu on two occasions (first over the phone, second in person) and I have to say, she is thee most humble, down-to-earth, sweetest person you'll ever meet.
Yeah right Jenny from the block! they said the same thing about Ted Bundy and John Gacey (humble and down to earth) and if you ever met anybody WE ALL SOUND NICE on the damn phone the first time we talk. I met Michael Jordan twice that doesnt mean i "know" him hell I could have caught him on a good day:) I swear I dont know who's crazier Ms. Badu or her zealous ass fans:) now go read a TD Jakes book and learn some compassion for your fellow man AND woman:) One love.

Just because she's not controlled like many other celebs and has her OWN mind and speaks for herself and stands by what she says and is NOT a follower does not make her crazy.
Now u come up in here everyday trying to take Badu's shine and say bad things about her. Maybe you're the one with a mental illness?? My mom used to say that it takes crazy to know crazy. Ever thought about that??
jennifer | April 17, 2008 1:45 PM | PermalinkIll Mami, handle your biz'nas ma! Psychiatrist! one question though...have you actually sat down and evaluated Ms. Badu? I mean I have watched enough cops shows, read enough books to know you cannot make a full and accurate diagnose of her sanity without meeting with her. Now I am not saying she is "text book" crazy and a danger to herself but are you telling all of us she is unquestionably NOT insane? I mean i'm just asking ma? real talk. I'm no psychiatrist but I have seen enough friends coming back from Iraq and while I was in Iraq who were "different" or "colorful" who actually became totally dislusional. Thats all i'm saying Mami.

blknitenmd | April 17, 2008 8:59 AM | Permalink@ Stoney:
Just between you and me, when I am not writing for Soul Bounce, I am a psychiatrist. Seriously. Erykah is not mentally insane, anymore than her voice sounds horrible just to you. She may not always say things that jive with your way of thinking, but that is no reason to label her as crazy. You are right about one thing: mental disorder diagnoses are on the rise amongst Black people, but before you label someone as such, just take a moment to think about labeling someone something that they are not.
Seriously.
ill Mami | April 17, 2008 1:14 AM | PermalinkHonestly, am I the only one who thinks Ms. Badu may have a mental condition? seriously. Music aside, excuses aside, I really think she should be on some sort of medication or at least under the care of a licensed doctor. Mental instability amongst black people is on the rise, while some of you sit around and make excuses for her she could be close to the edge. I really REALLY think she needs a 730 exam. sarcastic? shocking and amazing? or just plain ass crazy? I chose the latter:)
stoneyisland | April 16, 2008 11:37 PM | PermalinkCome on you guys, its clear that Badu is being extremely sarcastic here. Obviously she knows that people think she's as nutty as a snickers bar. Shes been saying all kinds of wild stuff in interviews lately and here we are taking here wayy too seriously
tigris2233 | April 16, 2008 8:05 PM | PermalinkAs someone who hates the concept of time myself, I understand the notion of hating "time" and needing to "be on time." The notion of calling "time" of "White" is something I understand inasmuch as she likely sees "time" as "evil" and not positive. Black folks have long spoken of White people as "evil." (BTW this is not my opinion, I'm just extrapolating).
It is obvious that Erykah has spent her entire career shocking and amazing people, so for her to say something "crazy" like this won't hold as much weight as poor Alicia speaking her mind and breaking the pop princess mold that her record company has so diligently laid out for her. I'm sure Erykah has an intellectual basis for her assumption, though.
ill Mami | April 16, 2008 5:21 PM | PermalinkTime is for white people? baby doll must have smoked one of her afro wigs prior to the interview. This is about as stupid as Bobby blaming Whitney for getting him started on coke:)
stoneyisland | April 16, 2008 4:37 PM | PermalinkI know Ms. Badu wants to be different but where do we draw the line? Butta? Mami? anybody? I am officially done with Ms. Badu but I still gotz love for soul bounce:)
Waiting patiently for Stoney. LOL
Butta | April 16, 2008 4:06 PM | Permalinkill Mami: Now you know we can't read that little a$$ type! lol
got me all excited and everything, lol
jennifer | April 16, 2008 3:53 PM | PermalinkBadu, you know I love you girl but um, it ain't the pollen that got my side eye twitching this time. That comment is um...let's just say I wish she would have kept her thoughts about that on the low low. We all know she marches to the beat of her own drum so this is not shocking. But still.
Title should be: Da Hell You Talmbout Erica Abi Wright?
