#75: Keith Sweat "Right And A Wrong Way"

Despite Keith Sweat being known for whining his way through many songs, let's all revisit 1987, the year when his Make It Last Forever LP hit shelves. The Harlem NYC native along with fellow Harlemite Teddy Riley on production introduced a new voice into the emerging genre of New Jack Swing. Women went absolutely mad for Keith, and Make It Last Forever subsequently sold 3 million copies. "His Whineness" also was able to fuel dance floors from Brooklyn to the Bay with some of the most revered slow jams of this era, including "Right And A Wrong Way." In it, Keith is at his pleading best, assuring his love that he not only knows the difference between loving someone rightly and wrongly, but that he is "yours for the taking." Smirk at his assurances that he "will treat you good" or just the fact that he sounds as though he's writhing on the floor asking some woman for her love, but put this jam on and you'll likely be whining along with the record and assuming a prostrate position on the floor as you sing along.

this entire keith sweat album was the bomb. every girl i hooked up with that summer had to sit and listen to me "almost sing" keith sweat songs. LOL.

Ohhh this was my song - "your'e not a little girl you're a woman!" I was one of those who NEVER had a problem w/ Keith Sweath whinning bc his music and albums at that time were always hot!

Yes indeed! You may be young but you're readyyyy. Ready to learnnnn!" And yes, my fast tail was ready to learn.

*grins sheepishly*

@ Butta:

You too?

I thought I was the only one :-)

This is one of the best New Jack Swing era slow jams ever.

And if I had a dollar for all the dirty old (as in in their twenties) men who tried to rap to 15-year-old me using Keith's "You may be young, but you're ready line" I woulda had enough lunch money for a while.
