Dwele 'Sketches' Out a Sampler of His New Album
Full disclosure: I started SoulBounce just so I could talk about Dwele.
A few days ago, Koch released a 20-minute sampler of Dwele's forthcoming Sketches of a Man via YouTube, so I snagged the audio, naturally, and posted it here at the risk of having them send their packed roster of Southern rappers to my home to break my legs and call me things like "disloyal." All that aside, the new stuff sounds closer in spirit to Subject, with a little more bump and less of the Smooth Jazz approach of Some Kinda. Of note: Slum Village makes an appearance once again and the album includes "Open Your Eyes," the Bobby Caldwell remake Dwele did with The Platinum Pied Pipers.
Sketches of a Man drops 6/24, only a few days before I see this brother in concert and my birthday. Detroit stand up!

Sharonda | May 15, 2008 7:13 PM | PermalinkI love any and everything Dwele puts his voice on. I will be the first one in line to buy the album :-)
Trizonna | May 15, 2008 6:25 PM | PermalinkI'm impressed. Not Blown away, but much better than I expected when I initially saw the post. I'm absolutely convinced that Kanye's "Flashing Lights" would not have gotten as much Radio Play without his voice. The hook did exactly what their meant to do..hooked you. Dwele certainly has a tad bit.."juts a tad" of D'angelo in there and like most contemporary soul singers is a mixture of past singers. As D'angelo himself was a we'll crafted Prince clone... "Untitled -How does it feel" much?...best Prince song written or recorded by Prince since "Oh Sheila:"...Ready for the world was the ish !.. sort of..anyway
Dwele sort of takes me back to that early 2000's Philly sound that I liked and disliked for certain reasons. I'll be checking his joint out when it arrives..hopefully its finished, mixed and mastered as these songs sound very demo-ish. The Caldwell song was the highlight
