John Legend Gives Us A Taste Of What's To Come With 'Green Light'

john_legend_sideeye.jpgWhen we first heard that John Legend wanted to take his music in a new direction and go more commercial on his upcoming album, the side-eyes were fluttering like hummingbird wings over here at SBHQ. We're not the ones to knock a brotha's hustle, but when it comes to good music, which John knows how to make, if it ain't broke then why fix it?

However, upon hearing this snippet of the track "Green Light" from his new CD, we may just be changing our tune much like the good Mr. Legend has. This joint right here is pretty damn hot. The sound is futuristic funk and Andre 3000 sets it off with a few verses before the snippet sadly ends. Good golly, Miss Molly! Where is the rest of this song? We need this in our lives.

So, people, are you all giving this one the green light, or do you want him to pump his brakes and stop? Discuss.

YA'LL ARE BUGGIN'! THIS JOINT IS HOT!!!!! MARK MY WORD ON YOUR CALENDAR THIS WILL BE A HIT RECORD.

This is the problem - John can't really sing. I mean he can sing in one pitch, at two octaves, if he plays the same piano chords as the last song to match his effort. But see, I already know where to get that kind of singing - in the church on Sunday when they let any ole 15 yr old that showed up to choir practice sing "Amazin Grace" as a solo.

John Legend? Lackluster at best. His black Henry Connick Jr . is not coming off well.

Ooh, imagine Dre coming in and singing a few lines to add some MANnishness on the track? Yum yum yum! And thankfully, this song has the 80s-electro vibe without sounding extremely dated. Unlike that new Common track or the new Donna Summer CD. *sigh* I want someone to get this sound RIGHT...please!

I'll give John Legend the greenlight. I always thought John was little boring, but this track is hot.

Ummm..I love Andre and John but ummm NO NO NO...rebuke Andre and John needs to stick to his usual...not feeling it!!

sound like some shit Justin Timberlake left on the studio recording floor. Terrible song, beat and lyrics although Dre3000 is the future of the funk.

I love Johnnie. He could do a slow jam remix of Tootsie Roll, and I would still be down! I'm riding with him no matter what.

I never really dug John's voice it not bad dont get me wrong and ordinary people is one of the best songs of the decade but I never liked the way his voice sounds not for a whole album ...I like this sort of

I like the song for Andre, but not for John. Can you imagine John trying to dance to this...LOL...hillarious.

Hmmm very interesting. I think it would do very well in Europe but I don't know how this would go over with his core audience, but he would definitely get new fans.

The song doesn't seem so bad. But its definately not what I expect from John Legend - which can be good and bad. Its good to try new things with music so the fans don't get bored. I hope the album comes out sounding good.

I sorta like it. I'm still against him going for a more mainstream sound, especially if this is what the entire album will sound like. Adding Andre 3000 makes the song a little more edgier than your everyday pop/r&b song.
