Not one to go down without a fight,
Nas' potential new album artwork may
no longer be entitled
Nigger, but that doesn't mean that he can't come with the realness on the album cover artwork. Seems to be able to convey "nigger" without having it printed anywhere on the image, no? Is this cover meant to be thought-provoking? Yes. Provocative? Definitely. Conforntational? Absolutely. Expect the factions on either side of this issue, those who agree with this intent on initially wanting to title the album after the absolute worst word to call a Black person and those who think he's a fool for even attempting this feat, to deepen with this cover. Full disclosure: I love it, but then I'm known for being an angry, militant-minded Black woman. In the end, we'll just all have to wait and see which cover makes it onto Wal-Mart's shelves.

yeah, this album better be so dope that I catch a brain cramp.
DJStylus | June 2, 2008 3:19 AM | PermalinkWell, I have never been a big Nas fan as far as the rhyming is concerned, so that doesn't even enter to my part of this discussion. But, as a country that seems loath to discuss any substantive matters of race, this kind of imagery helps us put any conversations that do occur in very practical, honest terms. I love it.
Stephanie Renee | June 1, 2008 7:03 AM | PermalinkWell, he rhyming may still be a subject up for debate, but this album cover is the truth! And, as our country seems to be so loathe to discuss race on any substantive level, it's this kind of in-your-face realism that will help keep the conversation truthful.
Stephanie Renee | June 1, 2008 7:01 AM | PermalinkAll I got to say is, NAS NEW MUSIC BETTER BE BETTER THAN SMOKED GOUDA ON A RITZ because I am not a believer. This ain't the same "One Love" Nas, where such assertions would seem organic and generate healthy debate. This is a man who said to himself, "Hmm, I want my fans to know I can still talk about important stuff. Hmmm.. What's a good topic? Oh, I know-- RACE RELATIONS!!! Everybody can relate to that!!!"
Like I said, smoked gouda.

Am I going to buy this shit brick of an album? or for that fact ever buy anything Nas puts out in the future? Absolutely HELL TO THE NAW. I am done supporting gimic rappers and fools. Anyone in search of real hip hop go scoop up that eMC album or the new Finale & spier1200 joint called Develop.

Mutada al sader the king | May 30, 2008 4:07 PM | PermalinkWell I HATE it. It deeply disturbed me when I scrolled down to the story and I had to move past it quickly. I do not want to see this staring at me from anyone's music store shelf. I just can't.
Vivrant Thang | May 30, 2008 2:48 PM | PermalinkI also love it. But here's hoping he can articulately convey the message we think he's trying to deliver.
