Bounce-Worthy: Sepsenakhi

sepsenakhi.jpgWe know. You've seen this type of soul singer before: the dreads seem to evoke Bay Area songstress Goapele, while the ancient Egyptian imagery evokes Erykah during her initial entrance into our collective consciousness. Yet, when you take a listen to Sepsenakhi's tracks, you begin to realize that this Atlanta-based singer/songwriter is the real deal. She's not simply emulating anyone else. She's the type of singer whose presence enraptures, just like the sweet voice that comes effortlessly forth from her throat. Despite her claim that she is not looking for a record contract and that she is a musician because it is where she can "find some bliss," that's her prerogative. We're just fiending for more of her blissful, unencumbered soul music.

Sepsenakhi: "Searchin'"

Sepsenakhi: "Come 2 Bed"

I didn't say she sounded like Sade. She doesn't at all. However, the jazzy "smoothness" of the instrumentation (on THE TRACK) is what I was referring to. You can "side eye" 'til that shit falls out your skull, I don't care, but what I say is true.

I definitely hear the Beyonce comparisons, but give a side-eye to the idea that she's Sade-ish. Much too contemporary sounding for that kind of side-by-side play, but I dig it. She may get some love on an upcoming SSR playlist. :)

And she looks like a more melanated Rihanna to me.

Yep me likes this one. Great songs and production, nice vocals. I do hear the Beyonce though. I'll check the album out.

Truly inspiring music.I will support the album.

i hear beyonce a little bit which is a good thing

mmm mmm good.

yum.

Nutrition for real! My ipod is asking for these songs for breakfast.

Did someone say she reminds them of Mrs. Bust It Creole?! My side-eye just exploded.

As usual, nice one Mami. Me likey! Another new Myspace friend!

Baby girl is nice with hers. Thanks for the introduction, iMami!

I'm in LOVE. She definitely doesn't sound like your typical "neo-soul" artist. I like the Sade-esque smoothness to her tracks. What's even better is that it doesn't sound like she's TRYING to be this over-the-top soul goddess. She gets it! Simply melodic, calming, entrancing vibes. I need the MP3s to these joints!
