First Look & Listen: Syleena Johnson's 'Labor Pains' Cover and Second Single
Although her new CD Chapter 4: Labor Pains doesn't hit the streets until next January, we have the first look at the cover art from Syleena Johnson's latest collection of soulful sounds. Even with a tear rolling down her cheek and sadness in her eyes, she looks absolutely gorgeous on the album cover. Not only does Syleena look good on the outside of the disc, she sounds extra good on the CD as well. Her signature vocals and storytelling skills are showcased on "Shoo Fly," the second single from Labor Pains. Reminiscent of Jill Scott's "Gettin' In the Way," Johnson tells her man's ex that she needs to get gone before she gets dealt with. Any woman who has ever had a crazy baby mama interfering in her relationship will be able to relate to this musical drama. After listening to this, it's quite clear that you don't want to get on Syleena's bad side.

I love Syleena Johnson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She has such a beautiful voice and she sings from the heart. She so damn taleted its not even funny and so many people don't even know about her.

LOL Anyway, the pushback makes me sad because I'm READY for the album... but good things come to those who wait. I was just listening to Chapter 2 earlier this evening before work. Also, I did hear the release date for the album changed to January 2009. Hey, it's her own label this time - I want the best for her so I can wait!!! I also heard she will be doing some listening parties in select cities. I even hear they will be in beauty salons - now that's a great idea!

Aquariuslover | August 13, 2008 9:32 PM | PermalinkHer album is said to be out on the 2nd September of this year, it'll probably only be a digital release as she's on her own label now. This girl has been doing her own thing for numerous years now, it's about time she had some recognition.
I have an interview with SJ for my site, which will coincide with the album being digitally released on 2nd September. That's the date that she said her album is out.
Good feature though, it's about time this artist got some love in the industry, far too much talent has been slipping under the radar.

There is just somthing about her...maybe it's the 'grit' in that voice that makes me feel like I'm hearing something classic everytime..i don't know but her music, all of her albums speak to me and always hit that right spot.
