A Soulful Noise

Let's Give Angie Stone Her Props While She's Still Living

angie_stone_pressed.jpgRaise your hand if you've been sleeping on Angie Stone! In an interview with Unsigned, she says "I just don't want to die or have something tragic go down and that makes them give some props to Angie Stone. I would be upset about that." Indeed. We love Angie, even though she tends to come across like a braggadocious rapper during the course of the interview. But with 30 years in the game, the Grammy-nominated singer has more than earned the right to demand props. She also asserts "I get a whole lot of love from Ellen DeGeneres, huge support from the gay community and I'm on the covers of newspapers whenever I come to town, but the things that really translate success, they avoid giving me." Ouch. We tend to root for the underdog here at SBHQ, but Angie really shouldn't even be considered an underdog. We aren't sure "Who's To Blame" for the lack of Stone-related coverage, but I will say this, someone needs to step up to the plate before we resort to making up stuff for this website.  [UTM]

Angie came off as a bragging rapper? Makes sense since she started out in a rap group. Different era, mind you. Plus, Hometown girl does good. All props due.

I love Angie and she definitely is underrated. But somebody needs to tell her that the up-and-coming youngster and soul-legend duet was not her creation. It has been around a long time. Aretha Franklin put out and album called Jewels in the Crown that was full of duets with younger folks (Whitney, Mary J., etc.), all made way before Stone came out with "Baby." Imagine that!

she deserves alot of props. this woman is amazing.

Angie can blow and she doesn't get enough commercial success. She just happens to speak about it more than some others. I can't hate on her for being assertive. it must get frustrating for true singers to have to compete with the tasty tarts who can't hold a tune, but still get radio and video play b/c of their looks.

I'm not mad at Angie. Give me my flowers while I'm living, too, dangit!

Great singers are a gift. BUT great singles make careers....not good songs.

I've always loved Angie and she has earned respect. Period.
