Video SoulBounce

You Know We Love Saadiq. But Do We 'Love That Girl'?

It's no secret how much we stan for Raphael Saadiq here at SoulBounce. Next to this guy, he's pretty much aces as far as we're concerned. So I was excited when we discovered that the first official video from his September release The Way I See It dropped, supporting the single "Love That Girl." (You already know we love that as well.) I pressed play and settled in, getting my hand-clap on to his 1960s groove. And then, about 1:30 into the video, my hands hit my forehead instead. Really, Raphael? Is that what was hot in the streets during that era? Yes, I'm knocking your hustle a bit, and even though I'm also aware that a lot of our young starlets have been popping up regularly in videos lately, there were still sooo many better other choices you could've made for leading lady. Sigh. I digress. What I will say is that I love the video concept, and you know I love the song, but respectfully, I'm not sure that I love that girl. That is all. I will now go call my mother and say sorry on Saadiq's behalf.

Now look on the bright side...this chicka COULDS be Brazilian with an Afro-Portuguese Grandfather and Indian grandmother roots.

Yo, I just had to take it there!

She's cute.

hmph
This video is making my brain itch.
I love his song, and have danced to it in my bedroom countless times, imagining that I was the leading lady (of course) who just so happens to be rocking the same hairstyle that moms wore to her prom back in '72, with a peach tea length dress on, who enters the dimly lit neighborhood party with two of her closest girlfriends (where everyone is slow groovin to somebodys aunties record player) prior to Raphael having to outwit every other cat in the building who is vying for my attention...it all ends at some random diner, after the party, with me laughing into raphael's ear...or somethin like that.
Now why he didnt choose my idea for this video (other than the fact that he's never heard my idea), I dont know.
I just know that im not feelin this right chea...not one bit.

Oh, and for the stans: he has a free performance in NY tomorrow @ 7p @ pier 17

LOL@ Madame Z...I was thinking the same thing...who dat white woman???

LOL. It's a music video, it's not West Side Story...
There is not a track of this album that I have not loved and God knows I've got the pre-order in already and I'll play my copy till it disintegrates to dust and then buy another copy, but I'm beginning to think this may be the one that kills the 60s/70s throwback trend because I don't think you can take this any further without it actually being a Smokey, Marvin, Temptations track.

I thought your who your leading lady would be depended on whom you were dating/sleeping with anyway!!

she looks very Joss stone-ish......he obviously likes it like that

Man, I'm getting tired of this R&B throwback sound that artists are playing these days. Little Jackie, Duffy, Estelle, Wino and the list goes on and on . . .

I'm sick of hearing it -- they all sound the same with a few variations to the original Motown soundbed.

I know we need to get back to the "real" music, but sheesh!

I feel like I'm in a time warp.

Who dis white woman be, Hoppo? LOL SMH.
