Video SoulBounce
So Musiq Was Serious About This 'Radio' Crap?
I loves Musiq, God knows I do. But I am still in denial about his song "Radio" that most visitors to SoulBounce were all but sure was a joke when we posted the track back in June. However, with last night's premiere of the music video for the song, the joke was clearly on us. That's right, Musiq was all smiles on BET's Access Granted while he filmed the video for this disposable tune. To his credit, it's a cool clip to look at, but that's about it. My advice: it's probably best to watch the video below on mute.Tags: musiq soulchild

@ Tee: Celebrate their failures?
GIRL, BYE!
Butta | September 4, 2008 3:32 PM | PermalinkI love the song, it shows his versatility. For the last four cds we have heard balad after balad after balad and I think its cool that he put out an uptempo joint every now and then. The beat is hot, the song is tight all together. We are all entitled to our opinions, yes it does sound like a dirty south "booty shake" song, thats what it was supposed to sound like. I cant believe some of the things you people are saying, If your a true fan of the artist and genre you have to celebrate their successes as well as their failures. So even if you didnt like the song you souldnt be ready to crucify him and boycott his next cd. Really!!
Tee | September 4, 2008 3:28 PM | PermalinkI must admit, when I first heard the song, I was a little disappointed, but I actually like it and if it came on in a club, I could see myself droppin it lke it s lukewarm out there on the dance floor.
I see im in the minority in this blog, but im wondering how good it will actually do on the radio. It just MIGHT be a hit.
To be honest, the way the industry is nowadays, if you arent getting play on the radio, or going the trendy route, its hard to make a dollar, so i can understand artists making compromises when it comes down to being able to keep their career going.
suga | August 23, 2008 7:55 PM | PermalinkI thought it was just me, but I can't stand this song. Don't get me wrong, I like Musiq and I can understand that he is trying to spread his musical wings but if it ain't broke don't "fix" it! This is a disappointment!!
pickles | August 17, 2008 4:19 PM | Permalinkfirst impression...you're kidding right? understand IF i buy his new cd, that song could be scratched up and skipping and i'll never know cuz i wont be playing it. next track! im all for artistry evolution, but he's degenerated to a geico cave man on this mess. SNAP YO FANGERS!!
marq diggy | August 15, 2008 1:28 PM | PermalinkTo me this song is reaching to a different audience... one that maybe didn't listen to an entire Musiq CD, probably just the "radio" tracks. I may be wrong but it seems like we're just getting a corner of the bigger picture here. It's something different from Musiq, yeah it's a huge stretch, but listen to it... don't it sound like a dirty south mix-tape song? Honestly I'm feeling the track, although I hope, and a strong emphasis on hope, this isn't a glimpse of what the industry has done to Musiq.
Busta-B | August 15, 2008 12:09 AM | Permalinkthis backlash is why I love our music genre. I have no comment on this debauchery all I'm saying is he can do better and John Legend is pulling this switch ish and I'm not feeling it.
ridickypicky | August 14, 2008 9:24 PM | Permalinkso sensitive! this is ONE song. some of y'all act like the whole record is going to sound like UGK or some junk. i'm actually kind of glad that Musiq moved away from the typical lead singles he's had in the past, where he's always trying to get with some chick, and the music is all nice and predictable. this new single is more fun, and so what if it's a little silly? some of the more memorable songs (in an array of genres) have simplified lyrical and/or musical content. i applaud Musiq for being bold enough to try something that is entirely new for him. at least we can say the beat knocks. he's not following the totally overdone, uber-poppy, neo-European sound that a lot of so-called R&B artists are doing right now. would that have been any better?
the sell-out talk is wack. Musiq is still one of the more inventive and talented writers out there, and he's been quite consistent over the years. how is he really a sell-out when he's already been quite successful? how come he wasn't a sell out when he covered "Something" by The Beatles, or "Miss You" by The Rolling Stones? just the idea of doing those particular songs was "different." at least he has some free reign to step outside of the box, instead of having his hand forced by a label like a lot of these other artists. i think we shouldn't give so much thought to this one song, and reserve full judgment for the forthcoming album.
dar | August 14, 2008 6:18 PM | Permalinkwhats the next step ( in his career ) a rmx with souljah boy ohhhhhhhhhhhh noooooooo musiq you are officially death to me
iknowitbetta | August 14, 2008 5:14 PM | PermalinkI totally agree with you, Langston. It's a song. He hasn't jumped camp and cameo'd on Lil Wayne's new single. It just one song. A run-of-the-mill, Garage Band beat -sounding song even. It's not even a good song judging from the tastes of the young'uns out there who can listen to urban terrestrial radio these days.
Something is telling me that he either (a) lost a bet or (b) is involved in a The Devil and Daniel Webster situation because no man after putting out some pretty decent work would ever fully admit to associating his name to this.
ill Mami | August 14, 2008 5:12 PM | Permalinkwtf does he somke crack....... c`mon we know u can do it betta than this childish crappy bubbblegum music
iknowitbetta | August 14, 2008 5:09 PM | PermalinkHi there people.
Well, Musiq Soulchild started just on point back in the day, but we know he was never a Soul master and now he's just falling off, but that's ok, let him do whatever he wants to do, he's a grown man. Let him be, let the man sing for the kids. Anyway, who wants to dance to this? This is straight garbage, and he knows it. He should drop the "Soulchild" thing for ever. Raheem DeVaughn or Dwele, who is the the next one to fall?
Ok, lotta love from Portugal (sorry if my english is no good)
Leandro Silva | August 14, 2008 4:05 PM | PermalinkAnd don't sleep on José James! The man is already a master!
These are clearly some reflex reactions from some of you. The song is perfect for radio, w/o undermining his artistry. It's one record people, not the whole CD. Don't hate the brotha for trying to be successful. The song is cute, catchy at a minimum. It's also nice to see that he can throw his audience a curve ball. Now, if he'd recruited T-Pain for this joint, now that would be unforgivable...
Langston | August 14, 2008 3:53 PM | PermalinkFirst of all, if it is an absolute must to contribute mind numbing mainstream music for the purpose of getting paid, can you at least come out with some new sounding interesting mainstream shit? Q-tip did it. He got a lot of flack for doing it, but at least Vibrant Thing didn't sound like anything else on the radio at the time. At least it was innovative crossover shit. Damn, Musiq. This song just made you look desperate. Like Billy Ocean teaming up with 3 6 Mafia for a comeback.
Gypsi | August 14, 2008 3:26 PM | PermalinkSo I guess neo soul is OFFICIALLY dead????
Stone | August 14, 2008 3:20 PM | Permalinki like this song; its catchy. but i wouldn't want a whole album of songs like this though
thenderson | August 14, 2008 3:13 PM | Permalink*gasp* WHY??? This is just not him...I mean I wouldn't be mad if this was Omarion or Chris Brown...you know somebody that still might have traces of teenage acne...but Musiq, this is just all kinds of wrong.
IKandiDiva | August 14, 2008 2:57 PM | Permalinkoh god don't kill me!
I love it.
I do, I would shake my ass to that.
I guess the point, though, is that I shouldn't be able to shake my ass to musiq soulchild. if I didn't see this video I wouldn't believe that was even him. its on the bizarre side.
huny | August 14, 2008 2:37 PM | PermalinkI guess he finally wants his song heard on the radio....
DeeStar | August 14, 2008 2:35 PM | PermalinkPlease Musiq please let this be the only one
Now I love me some Musiq Soulchild but when I saw that video last night on BET, I was in shock. I was like are you freakin' kidding me. This is wack. Why did he go and change his style up? I am so not feeling this!
BrownSugar283 | August 14, 2008 1:33 PM | PermalinkThis Musiq debacle brings to mind one of my favorite bible verses:
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?"
Butta | August 14, 2008 1:31 PM | PermalinkMatthew 16:26
Isn't he like a year late on the snap music tip? Sad, we've lost one to this crap!
Nikki | August 14, 2008 1:28 PM | PermalinkWow! I wanted to believe that this was something he was just playing around with...guess not!
Not only is it not Musiq 'Soulchild' but it's actually not even a good song.
You might win some, but you REALLY lost one!
MuseSik | August 14, 2008 1:25 PM | PermalinkI think Musiq Soulchild is a genious and I really want this new album to be good, 'cos his last one was pretty cool and so were his others.
But this song is not the Musiq Soulchild that we know and love, it's different, very different.
woosh | August 14, 2008 1:10 PM | PermalinkI'm more pissed about another black man wearing a fauxhawk
blknite | August 14, 2008 1:00 PM | PermalinkI think the Ojays said it best...."For the love of money
People will steal from their mother For the love of money
People will rob their own brother, For the love of money
People can't even walk the streets Because they'll never know who in the world they're gonna beat, For that mean, oh mean, mean green
Almighty Dollar!
stoneyisland | August 14, 2008 12:55 PM | PermalinkBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Just BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
