A Soulful Noise
The Day Solange 'Decided' to Save A Fan
Solange Knowles may be trying to create buzz these days by saying "F%#k the Industry," but what she's proven, at least in my mind and that of a verrrry fortunate young man, is that she will never say "f%#k the fans!" Things could've turned very ugly at this past weekend's Stone Soul Picnic performance in Washington, DC as one of her fans decided it was a good idea to take his Obama-clad behind on stage to dance with the Sol-Angel and her Hadley Street Dreams. Lawd. Truth be told, I was prepared to pop some corn and watch some up close and personal footage of dude being folded into oragami. To our surprise, though, Knowles barely flinched when he decided to join the trio for a little two-step. When security finally showed up (which begs the question, where were they? Eating some ribs? Playing dominoes? Gassin' up the Pacer? Sheesh.) to escort him from the stage, Solange intervened and allowed him to get his boogie on, even introducing him to the crowd as they prepared to exit stage left. I'll tell you this: she might've sold a few more albums with that move right there. Lawd knows if that were another Knowles up there, the only album homie would've been purchasing in the near future was a photo album that showed flicks of him when he used to be able to walk. For real.

MuseSik | August 15, 2008 11:25 AM | PermalinkI gotta say, I tried to give her a chance with that first album but it wasn't for me. This time around with the 7 or 8 songs I've heard so far I'm really diggin' her choices and collabo's, not a big fan of the voice but her music is definitely making an impact on me right now.
You bet that was very gracious of her to allow him to remain getting his boogey on but the fact he was able to make it on stage is creepy and those security folk have lost a bunch of contracts We have lost too much talent to allow them to be in harms way
Vic | August 15, 2008 10:57 AM | Permalinkomg that's like a milder version of me jumping onstage during a badu concert. at least she was cool with it, dancing with him and everything, lol.

Scryptkeeper | August 14, 2008 4:01 PM | PermalinkI was also at this mess and we all know if the was BEY O Wolf on stage hat man would have never been seen or heard from again. Sol's performance was ok but her Dena & the Dreams schtick got tired real fast
blknite | August 14, 2008 3:15 PM | PermalinkThat was nice of her. I really like Solange and I love her music, too. I already pre-ordered the album and absolutely cannot wait to get it. If you watch the interview she did after the concert (Soul Picnic), she talks a little about it. She also says that Beyonce is one of the best vocalists in the game right now. Amen to that, sista! People don't want to give Bey her props, but she is seriously talented. Both of them are.
Nate | August 14, 2008 2:54 PM | PermalinkI was at this mess and if security was anything like me they were too busy having a heat stroke to get to the stage in a hurry.
I will say that Solange and her band sounded very good live. I was shocked. She shut me up.
